Google Introduces Early Build of Android 5.1

Google Nexus 5

Google has started rolling out the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update to various Nexus smartphone models and developers are already discussing about the Android 5.1. The Devoxx conference took place recently in the Netherlands and during this occasion, senior software engineers from Google revealed a Nexus 5 unit that runs Android 5.0 Lollipop MR1 (Maintenance Release 1).

It is said that the MR1 is actually an early build of Android 5.1. It should be noted that a few years ago, Google showed the Android 2.0 MR1, which eventually become the Android 2.1. Also, the Android 3.1 was based on the Android 3.0 MR1; as well as the Android 4.1 from the Android 4.0 MR1. As expected from its version numbering, the Android 5.1 won’t be a significant changed from the original 5.0. In fact, it will still be called the Lollipop. Of course, once the Android 5.1 is pushed out to the market, it will be equipped with multiple new features.

Also, Google could still be waiting for reports of possible software glitches in the original Android 5.0 to be included in the Android 5.1. It is not known what type of new features will be included in the Android 5.1.
